India’s first double lung transplant on COVID-19 patient

With the recent advancements in medical sciences and rapidly growing factors in Medical industry, created history in India when a team of Doctors headed by Dr. Sandeep Attawar did a first double lung transplant in India.

The patient was a known case of Sarcoidosis. Sarcoidosis is a disease that leads to the formation of small lumps of inflammatory cells called granulomas in the lungs, which eventually lead to fibrosis (hardening of pulmonary tissue). During his recent visit to one of the hospital he was infected with COVID-19. This worsened his condition and thus, an immediate double lung transplant was scheduled.

Congratulations to the team of doctors, medical staff, policemen, transport authorities and the state governments. They played a vital role in collecting, transporting and restoring the donated organ from the donor to the recipient.
